Porter Family

We had a very successful Porter Family Meeting August 10, 2002 in Porterville, Utah.

Chris Porter finished a two year stint as President of the Porter Family Organization and we thank him for his efforts.

Steve Wright begin his service as President. Also agreeing to serve as officers were Norris Porter, who was voted in as 1st Vice-President, and Paul Porter, who was voted in as Second Vice President. Each will serve for two years. At the end of two years, the 2nd Vice-President will begin a two year term as 1st Vice-President, and the 1st Vice-President will begin serving as President. Deane Smith has graciously agreed to continue serving as Treasurer.

A Board of Directors was elected to serve at least a one year term. Voted to serve for this year were Heber Hansen, Paul Porter and Chris Porter. It is anticipated that the Board will communicate with the Porter Family Organization officers at least once a quarter to receive a report about the status of the organization and this work.

The Organization voted to increase the suggested annual donation from $10 to $15.

Steve Wright introduced the organization to the Porter Family Web site. He then laid out some of his thoughts about how the web site can be used to serve the family and invited everyone to visit the site and offer comments or ideas.

George Mortimer reported on the work to transcribe the Nathan Tanner Porter journal. He also solicited volunteers to assist with the work. George agreed to continue serving as the Family History and Genealogical Committee chairperson.

Dorene Jones was unable to attend the meeting so we did not receive an update from the Monument & Cemetery Committee. However, much appreciation was expressed for the work done by this committee (as well as the Family History and Genealogical Committee). Subject to Dorene's veto, she was retained as chairperson for the Monument & Cemetery Committee.

John Porter was also unable to attend the meeting and report on the Communications Committee. However, it is anticipated that this Committee will be able to assist in the development and oversight of the family web site. His efforts are also very much appreciated.

As to the Family Reunion Committee, the president customarily serves as chairperson of this committee. Given the fact that Steve lives out of state and is focusing his efforts on the web page, he asked that anyone willing to serve as Family Reunion chairman contact him.
