President's Message
The 2nd weekend of August and the annual Porter Family Reunion will soon be
upon us. I look forward to our yearly get together! I've become acquainted with many of you over these past eight years that I have served. I'm on my 2nd round of service in the family organization and in one way or another will be actively engaged until the end. We have a great need for more family members to step up and become involved. Karma Burtenshaw, our 2nd Vice President, was called with her husband to preside over a mission in the Philippines. Along with her position we would like to ask someone in each of the family lines descending from Sanford and Nancy to volunteer to provide leadership and direction. There is so much work to be done and with a little effort from all of us we can move forward in significant ways.
I'm so pleased with the progress Lynn Porter has made with the website this year. It is a tool that will make a big difference in our ability to communicate with one another and focus on the tasks that need to be done. I so enjoy the family history link! We have a rich legacy of storytellers in our family. They have shared their experiences and testimonies of the restored gospel. They have strengthened our faith and given us hope to carry on during these difficult days. The Porter Family has a story to tell; from journals, poems, pictures and rich traditions. These stories shape our families and can have a great influence in our lives if we will allow them to. I serve because they first served me-by laying the foundation of this great gospel work and defining the characteristics that embody the members of the GREAT PORTER FAMILY-- there is magic in it.
We have invited Howard Workman, a magician with a message, to entertain us after our lunch and just before our business meeting at the reunion this year. Bring the whole family and let the magic of being involved with the Porter Family begin. See you on August 13th!
Paul Porter

Communications
Are you aware that we have an active Website full of information of interest for the members of the Porter Family? From this website you can learn of upcoming Porter Family events. You can look up Porter Family histories and stories. We have selections for the Family History and
Genealogical Committee, the Monument and Cemetery Committee, The Communications Committee, and the Reunion Committee. You can take a virtual tour of the Porterville cemetery to look at different ancestors'
monuments. You can access an archive of past Porter Family Newsletters or play games that have a Porter Family connection. You can read some favorite inspirational thoughts, poems and stories. You can access links to many other websites that have information of interest to the Porter
Family.
The best thing of all about the Website is that you can be a contributor. If you have personal histories of any of your Porter relatives, we would love to put them on the site. If you would like to add some favorite poems or Porter anecdotes of stories, it's easy to do. If you know of other sites that would be of interest to the family, we can easily add those if you give us the information. The more contributions we get from you the richer this site will become.
We encourage you to go today to
http://www.sanfordporter.org
and see what's available. If you register, you will also be linked to sections of the site that are reserved for family members only. Take some time to explore the site and then think about what you would like to add to make
it even better.
