Porter News Letter for 2006
President's Message
As the Porter Family Presidency, we would like to invite you to a "Porter Family Show & Tell." What successes and joys have you experienced in the past few years that could inspire and motivate all of us to move forward with this great work? If you are coming to the reunion, contact me and let me know what you have and the time you would need to share. If you are not coming and would like to share something, write it, video it, sing it, record it…and we will share it at the reunion. Elder Bruce D. Porter has accepted the invitation to speak to us and encourage us in this the Lord's work.
Several weeks ago I was in Primary singing time, thinking about my responsibilities in the Porter Family Organization. Everyone started singing "Families Can Be Together Forever." My thoughts drifted to the far-flung family of Sanford and Nancy Porter. Through these past few years of service I have found a place in this great family. I have become acquainted with family members and ancestors who have inspired and strengthened me. I feel so inadequate at times. We have so many pressures and commitments in our day. I feel to say that I can do what I can do, and what I can do I will do. Gary Porter will assume the responsibility of Family President this year and we have a great need to have someone serve as the 1st and 2nd vice presidents. "If ye have desires, ye are called to the work." I know the spirit is working upon some of you to volunteer. Accept the challenge and your family will be greatly blessed! Thanks for all you do, both seen and unseen. See you on August 12th.

Communications
As we announced last year, we have an active Website full of information of interest for the members of the Porter Family. Since we began the website many of you have contributed stories and information of interest to all of us. We hope you have been happy with the way we have treated your contributions and hope you realize how many of us have enjoyed your input.
For those who haven't taken the time to explore this website, we would like you to know that it is a great source of Porter Family history and information. From this website you can learn of upcoming Porter Family events. You can look up Porter Family histories and stories. We have selections for the Family History and Genealogical Committee, the Monument and Cemetery Committee, the Communications Committee, and the Reunion Committee. You can take a virtual tour of the Porterville cemetery to look at different ancestors' monuments. You can access an archive of past Porter Family Newsletters or play games that have a Porter Family connection. You can read some favorite inspirational thoughts, poems and stories. You can access links to many other websites that have information of interest to the Porter Family.
The best thing of all about the Website is everyone can contribute. Just as the contributions of the past year have made the site better, we know that there are many more stories out there that we all need to hear. If you have personal histories of any of your Porter relatives, we would love to put them on the site. If you would like to add some favorite poems or Porter anecdotes or stories, it's easy to do. If you know of other sites that would be of interest to the family, we can easily add those if you give us the information. The more contributions we get from you, the richer this site will become.
We encourage you to go today to http://www.sanfordporter.org and see what's available. If you register, you will also be linked to sections of the site that are reserved for family members only. Take some time to explore the site and then think about what you would like to add to make it even better.
