These photos show the work going on at the Nathan Tanner Porter Homestead. As of September 28th 2005
The new owners are uncovering unexpected treasures as they work on the Rebecca Cherry home. At the south end of the home they found a fireplace behind the wallboard that neither they nor anyone else they had talked to knew existed. It showed signs that a stove may have been plumbed into the chimney. They found a rootcellar under the north end of the home. There are large hand-hewn timbers under the floor and, best of all, the original planking on the floor, when uncovered, was good; they are going to use it in their restoration of the home.
In restoring the home, they want to be as accurate as possible. They know there was a front porch on the home at one time and would like to know if there are any photos that would show this or if there is someone in the family who saw the home and can describe some of the features like the porch or fireplace.
